At Twostyle, staying connected with fresh, innovative designs is essential to our creative process. Recently, we had the pleasure of attending an exclusive event hosted by Design by Them, a brand celebrated for their unique approach to contemporary furniture design. Held at the charming gallery space At The Above on Gertrude Street in Fitzroy, the event was a showcase of new and upcoming pieces that pushed the boundaries of modern design and craftsmanship.
The event was brimming with creativity and artistic flair. One of the standout themes was powder-coated furniture in muted yet lively tones that brought a subtle, modern energy to the room. These pieces effortlessly combined functionality with a touch of playfulness, making them versatile for a variety of interior settings.
Fringing emerged as a key design element that caught our attention. We saw it used thoughtfully on rugs and standout furniture pieces, adding texture and movement that gave the space a unique personality. It was a refreshing reminder of how traditional elements can be reimagined in a modern context, creating pieces that are both bold and timeless.
A true highlight of the event was the Weaver Cabinet, a stunning unit in a vibrant cobalt blue. This piece encapsulated everything we love about design—color, craftsmanship, and a distinct visual impact that draws you in. Meeting the founders of Design by Them, Sarah Gibson and Nicholas Karlovasitis, was another highlight. Their passion for their work shone through in every conversation. Warm, inviting, and brimming with creative energy, they personified their brand’s ethos perfectly. It was clear that their vision extends beyond furniture; it’s about creating artful experiences that resonate with people.
We left the event feeling uber inspired, brimming with new ideas and a refreshed sense of excitement for our own projects.
